Introducing Our Newest Board Members
August 21, 2024
Please join us in welcoming our newest Board Members to the WARD’S Foundation team! We are incredibly grateful to our Board of Directors who serve in shaping the Foundation’s goals and strengthen the ways in which we can deliver services in line with our mission. Thank you for your commitment and leadership in helping our Foundation support families through their rare disease journeys!
Matthew Blickley:
Matthew currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Financial Planning and Chief Accounting Officer of Coca-Cola Consolidated. His daughter, Hayden, was born in 2021 with a rare disease known as Schaaf-Yang Syndrome. Matthew and his wife were unprepared for having a child with a rare disease and struggled to find resources and support to help them with their goal of providing the best opportunities for Hayden to achieve her maximum potential. They have been advocates for Hayden since day one, but have realized how difficult it is to be an advocate for a child with a rare disease and complex care, which led them to help the community and families in the same position they found themselves in. At that time, they were introduced to WARD’S Foundation and saw the amazing work the Foundation was doing to serve the community in need. Matthew looks forward to helping advance the Foundation's mission and provide rare disease children and their families with support to navigate the challenges that many rare disease families face.
Meghan Huff:
Meghan has a Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies and currently works in Family Medicine part time. Meghan and her husband, David, have two daughters. Their younger daughter, Nora, was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition in January 2023. Meghan is passionate about helping families affected by rare medical conditions and she is excited to join the Board of Directors.
Joey Norman:
Joey is a Business and Corporate Attorney at Moore & Van Allen. He is a parent of a child with a rare disease, so the mission of WARD’S Foundation is close to his heart. He has been fortunate to live in a city with world class children’s care and access to specialists and resources, but recognizes that many families facing similar challenges are not in the same situation. Supporting other families through WARD’S mission is his small way of showing his gratitude for the enormous love and support that his family has received living with a child with a rare disease.
Steve Sims:
Steve is the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of Braemont Capital Management. Steve became involved with WARD’S Foundation after witnessing firsthand the positive impact his wife made as a nurse working in the PICU. Her dedication and compassion in caring for critically ill children inspired Steve and showed him the difficulties many families go through. Additionally, seeing his former coworker, Trey Winslett, battling through various challenges motivated him to help improve the lives of those facing similar issues. Steve wanted to be part of an organization that makes a tangible difference in people's lives and supports them through tough times.
